Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a Windows Vista™-compatible version of my CA consumer product?

Because Windows Vista is different in many ways than previous versions of Windows, it requires us to make modifications to our existing products to insure they are compatible with this new operating system. If you are running Windows Vista on your PC, you will need the Windows Vista-compatible version of your CA consumer product to insure that it operates properly.

How will your Windows Vista-compatible products be made available?

Once our Windows Vista-compatible products are available, current subscribers will be able to download and install a free update, via this website.

If you purchase a CA consumer product through a retail outlet, depending on when and where you purchase it, you will either receive instructions on the packaging indicating how to obtain a Windows Vista-compatible version, or you will be provided with a Windows Vista-compatible version on the CD included in the box.

New customers who purchase CA consumer products via download at the CA online store, after the release of CA's Windows Vista-compatible versions, will automatically receive the Windows Vista-compatible version.

What if I try to install a CA product that is not Windows Vista-compatible, on my Windows Vista PC?

Depending on whether you are installing on a new Windows Vista PC, or on a PC you are upgrading to Windows Vista, you may see an incompatibility message that indicates you cannot install the product on Windows Vista. In this case, download the Windows Vista-compatible version of the product, and follow the upgrade instructions provided on www.ca.com/vistaready.

What license key should I use?

The license key you received in your boxed product (if you purchased through a retail store) or in your confirmation email (if you purchased via download through an online store) should be used when installing the Windows Vista-compatible version of your product.

If I am upgrading my PC to Windows Vista and I have an incompatible version of a CA product on my PC, do I have to uninstall the CA software to continue the upgrade?

Yes. You have to uninstall the incompatible version of the CA software. Once you have finished the installation of Windows Vista, you can install the Windows Vista-compatible version of your CA product.

If I try to upgrade my CA product to the Windows Vista compatible version, do I have to uninstall and reinstall the CA product?

If you are on Windows XP then no, the upgrade will be seamless.

Will previous versions of CA consumer products be Windows Vista-compatible?

Previous versions of CA consumer products (for example, eTrust® EZ Antivirus, eTrust® PestPatrol® Anti-Spyware, and eTrust® EZ Armor) will not be made compatible with Windows Vista. However, current subscribers who are using older versions of our products are eligible for free upgrades to the Windows Vista-compatible 2007 versions.

Which editions of Windows Vista will CA consumer products support?

CA consumer products will be compatible with all Consumer editions of Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate).
